Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
General Questions:
General Questions:
- What is SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme (SCTP)?
The SCTP is a key initiative by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) aimed at supporting mid-career individuals in gaining skills that are in demand by employers. This program operates on a Train-and-Place basis, meaning participants will undergo training sessions and participate in application-focused project work. Meanwhile, TaF.tc, as a program partner, will provide services such as employment facilitation and career advisory to the participants. - How will SCTP courses be conducted?
SCTP courses are structured to equip participants with skills that are pertinent to the industry, enhancing their employability and facilitating their transition to new job sectors or roles. The format for these courses includes a mix of face-to-face training, online education, and project-based learning under guidance and mentorship. - Will SCTP lead to job placements?
Under the SCTP’s Train-and-Place scheme, TaF.tc offers career advice and employment support to assist participants in finding jobs in relevant sectors or positions. While direct job placement is not assured, participants are encouraged to remain open to various job opportunities that may arise.
Programme Eligibility:
Programme Eligibility:
- Who can apply for SCTP?
SCTP welcomes applications from all Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents seeking to upgrade their skills for a transition into new industries or job roles. This includes both unemployed and employed individuals who meet the minimum entry requirements and are able to commit to the program’s training schedules, including attending a minimum number of sessions and passing evaluations. - Can individuals who are recent graduates, undergraduates, or NSmen apply for SCTP?
Eligibility for SCTP requires individuals to be at least 21 years old in the calendar year the program starts. Recent graduates, undergraduates, and NSmen who meet this age requirement and can commit to the program’s prerequisites, such as attendance and assessment criteria, are encouraged to apply. While the program primarily aims to assist mid-career individuals in transitioning to new careers, all eligible applicants are welcome, with priority given to those in mid-career stages. - Will trainees need to have certain minimum academic qualifications to sign up for the SCTP?
Before enrollment, TaF.tc will evaluate applicants’ suitability for their chosen courses, with academic qualifications being one of the factors considered in this assessment. - Will SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) allow trainees, who did not manage to find a job after completing a course, to take up another course under the SCTP?
Trainees who have not secured employment after finishing an SCTP course may enroll in another course under the program. However, TaF.tc will conduct an assessment to determine their eligibility for the new course. Trainees are thus advised to choose courses that align with their career goals to increase their chances of obtaining meaningful employment. For guidance on selecting appropriate skills training, individuals can schedule one-on-one Skills and Training Advisory sessions through MySkillsFuture.gov.sg or visit https://go.gov.sg/registration-sta. - Are trainees allowed to take on part-time employment during the programme?
Since SCTP does not restrict eligibility based on the employment status of participants, there are no direct prohibitions against engaging in part-time work during the program. Participants must, however, ensure they meet the program’s training obligations, including a minimum attendance rate of 75% and successfully passing all required assessments. - Are company-sponsored individuals eligible for SCTP?
SCTP is exclusively open to individuals sponsoring themselves. Company-sponsored applicants are not eligible to participate.
Programme Fees and Funding
Programme Fees and Funding
- Are there any costs associated with SCTP, and what financial support is available?
a. Baseline Subsidy – Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents are eligible for up to 70% course fee subsidy, provided they achieve at least 75% attendance and pass all assessments. Failure to meet these criteria will necessitate full payment of the course fees.
b. Mid-career Enhanced Subsidy (MCES) – Singapore Citizens aged 40 and above are eligible for up to 90% subsidy of the course fees, subject to a minimum of 75% attendance and successful completion of assessments.
c. Additional Funding Support (AFS) – This is available for Singapore Citizens who are either long-term unemployed (unemployed for six months or more), recipients of ComCare Short-to-Medium Term Assistance (SMTA) or Workfare Income Supplement (WIS), or Persons with Disabilities. - Application for Additional Funding Support
To apply for additional funding, inform TaF.tc if you meet any of the specified eligibility criteria for extra financial support. Eligibility confirmation leads to application of the support. - Payment Timeline for Training Fees
Training fees must be paid in full before the start of the program. - Using SkillsFuture Credit for SCTP
SkillsFuture Credit and Additional SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career Support) can be utilized by all self-sponsored participants to cover SCTP fees. If your credits do not fully cover the fees, they will offset part of the cost. - Absence of Training Allowance
Unlike the SGUnited Skills Programme (SGUS) and SGUnited Mid-Career Pathways Programme – Company Training (SGUP-CT), SCTP does not provide a training allowance. This is because those allowances were specific to the COVID-19 pandemic’s exceptional circumstances. SCTP’s funding structure aligns with SSG’s standard model, which does not include training allowances for most programs.
SSG is committed to keeping SCTP course fees manageable. Additional funding support of up to 95% is available for jobseekers in greater need, and SkillsFuture Credit can help cover any remaining expenses. - Post-Secondary Education Account (PSEA) Use
Trainees are permitted to use funds from their PSEA towards SCTP fees.
